More About LISAS

LISAS CIC Stands for Leisure Inclusive Social Activity Services and is a community interest company. We were established in October 2020 and we was known as LISAS until March 2022 when we became a social enterprise CIC. We are a not for profit organisation, relying on funding, grants and amazing volunteers. We couldn’t provide the services we do without our wonderful team of hard working and dedicated volunteers.

Here at LISAS CIC we pride ourselves on been inclusive and therefore we offer a variety of activities that cater for all interests and needs. Lisas provides a welcoming warm safe space where people can participate in a variety of activities during our social groups such as quizzes, baking, MAGIC (Movement and games in chair), games, crafts, bingo and more.

We host four different groups in Heckmondwike, Cleckheaton and Birkenshaw, and are lucky enough to welcome members from surrounding areas including Leeds and Bradford.

We go on five outings and one day trip a year: recent ones include ten pin bowling, street bikes, crown green bowling and a meal out at a local restaurant. We offer a loan service of books and jigsaws at all our groups as well as puzzle sheets such as crosswords, wordsearches, brain teasers to name a few.

LISAS collaborates with lots of local organisations and we regularly have community speakers attending our groups and carers count attend our dementia group once a month supporting our carers.

The access bus is also available to transport our members to and from are Tuesday and Wednesday groups. It is free of charge to anybody over 65 with a bus pass and is £3.50 to anyone under 65.

Our aim is to foster inclusivity and vibrancy into our social groups and outings for individuals over 50. We are committed to providing a welcoming and engaging environment, create a supportive community that provides social connections while enhancing over-all wellbeing.

Benefits of social groups

There are lots of benefits to being in a social group.

Enhanced Mental Health

Isolation is one of the leading causes of depression in older adults. Loneliness can easily turn to feelings of worthlessness and despair. On the other hand, socialising can help older adults feel loved and needed as their lives are affirmed by the activities they do and by those with whom they interact. Being around other people, especially if you’re doing something fun or rewarding, helps us keep a healthy mental state with a positive outlook on life.
